Stop with the “old stuff”!! Anyway, we are going to do a math blog – Betty and I already discussed it and mentioned it to Darlene. We have not gone any further but will…There are already other blogs in the district – Brian Dunn, Jeremy Post, Kim Monroe/Chris Fuhs (or about to be launched). Enjoy!
One of the issues I shared with CA is that do not want to get too prescriptive because still concerned in the hands of wrong personnel…they will do monkey see, monkey do BUT not understand why or how to do what is right for kids or to think professionally.
Carol and I had sort of that same conversation today but differently as we talked about teaching elem. teachers math content…that they do not understand why math does what it does…so they end up only having kids do things one way…usually the way they learned it. Great philosophical discussion with no resolution. We are pleased to hear a math blog is coming.
Oops…since we males never read instructions OR MAPS…how do you share response to all…you can tell me one day when you are over here if I haven’t figured it out by then.
When you log into the site, the third link down after the “Welcome to Edublogs” message will allow you to update your password.
The math blog exists. In its infancy stages at this point. I posted a sample on my own blog: http://napolib.edublogs.org this past weekend. We hope to share various ways to solve problems. I am looking for a teacher to try this his/her class. I’ll see who I can rope into it.
Betty,
If you’re willing to try this with a third grade in-class resource room, we’re willing to try. I’d like to try a basic blog with the students. This would be a real test in differentiated instruction via technology due to the drastic level differences (7 special ed students, 6 Gem students and the rest average to high average). I also think it would help challenge the higher average students, while presenting material in a different way to those who don’t quite understand the concepts.
It’s nice to see an ongoing conversation through this blog. Often, comments are made or questions are asked but no one replies. Great start to our district blogging!
