Skinny- Who did Emerson , Miss Eells, and Anthony meet in the other world when they first got there?
Thick- What do you think is going to happen to Anthony because it ends the chapter with Anthony being alone?
Thoughts- I think the Grand Autarch is going to find him because he might know that the three of them are in his world.

T/W Sometimes, when I’m in a scary place, like a “haunted house”, I can recognize a person who is not meant to be scary, like Emerson, Miss Eells, and Anthony do with Nathaniel. It helps me better understand the book because I know that the trio instantly knows that Nathaniel is the only benevolent person in the mansion.
T/S When I am really (and I mean REALLY) scared, I tend to go in the opposite direction of the group if I’m in one, just like Anthony does when Nathaniel vanishes into the hole. This connection helps me understand the book because I know that Anthony is truly, deeply scared.

Skinny – What amulet did Emerson, Anthony, and Miss Eells choose to keep themselves protected?
Thick – What do you think happened to Miss Eells, Anthony, and Emerson at the end of the chapter? Please explain.
Thoughts – I think all three of them traveled to the mansion in the other world because if the ace of spades was upside down, they would die. So I think the only other thing that would happen is they would go to the other world because Mr. Ambrose(A.K.A. the Grand Autarch) lives there. I think that is what happened.

t/s. Like Anthony and Miss Eells I worry alot too. This helps me better understand how Anthony and Miss Eells would react to certain situations.
t/s. Anthony likes to visit Emerson because it’s very old fashioned.I like to visit my Grandma because her house is kind of old fashioned so that tells me what Anthony’s interests are.

T/S- Once when I went out of town there was a couple of people telling a reporter a lot of interesting things like Mrs.Oxenstern was. It helps me better understand the story because I know how Mrs. Oxenstern is feeling when she told the reporter about the ghost.
T/W- In a TV show I watch the character thought that he was magical like Emerson thinks that the desk is magical. It helps me better understand the story because I know how Emerson feels and how eager he is to find out if it is true.

Skinny What did Emerson tell Mrs. Oxenstern his name was?
Thick Will Emerson see Mr. Ambrose’s (A.K.A the Grand Autarch’s) ghost, or will the ghost attack him if he wears his amulet?
Thoughts I think that the Grand Autarch will try to be seen by Emerson or attack him, but will probably fail.
