In chapters 5-6, we learn more about our main characters and their backgrounds. We also learn why the book is named “The Pinballs”. Carlie makes the comparison between herself, Harvey, and Thomas J to the pinballs in a pinball machine. She claims that they’re always sitting there waiting for another person to put in a dime and send them bouncing out of their control.
Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt like a pinball and your life was out of your control? Explain that experience and whether or not you think you truly did not have the option of changing that situation.

iI had no control of my life when my parents went away andwe had ababy sitter for one day, she told me what to do every second she was in my house.[she even told me what to watch].I was about 4 at that time so I do not think I had the option of changing that situation.

I had no control over going shopping with my Dad and Mom. They needed some new clothes for this special party but I really didn’t want to go. I love to shop but if we’re not shopping for me I could care less.

A time I felt like a pinball was when, my birthday was coming up and my mom decided to go on vacation to Chicago, (just the two of us) I was soooo mad!!! I was gonna have my birthday with all my family, but I had to have it there! Although, things came threw, and I had a birthday party at my aunt’s and uncle’s. I even had another one at Chicago, on the exact day of my birthday! (by the way the on at my aunt’s house wasn’t on my real birthday) they just wanted to celebrate with me since I wasn’t having it at my house on the exact day. A cool thing that happened on my exact birthday is that I lost a tooth! Anyway, from all this I’ve learned that you can’t always get what you want, and sometimes what you expect doesn’t turn out the way you planned it to. I know I get that feeling!

one time when i felt as if i had no control over where i was going to go (like a pinball.) was when i went to disney world. my family wanted to go everywhere but i didn’t have a choice because i was pretty young at the time and i couldn’t speak up for myself. Since i was only 6, i don’t think there was any chance of me taking control.

I had no control over going to the mall when I was doing my homework. And I like my homework to come first.
Example: My homework is to blog. And I’m doing it before going to basketball practice.
