On March 8th, The Rotary Club of Absecon-Galloway donated dictionaries for all the third graders in Roland Rogers. The Club has been doing this for several years now donating dictionaries both in Absecon and Galloway schools. The books were personally distributed by the club members to each of the third graders.
This is one of Rotary’s most important and most successful community service projects because of its direct contact with so many young girls and boys in their classroom settings.
The goal of the Dictionary Project is to improve the reading ability and comprehension of all children, everywhere. It is their goal to encourage children to use dictionaries so that they will be able to use the English language effectively. A student cannot do his or her best work without a dictionary. By providing this tool, Rotarians assist teachers in making all students active readers, good writers and creative thinkers. Students can use the dictionaries throughout their school careers. Over the past several years, the club has donated over 3000 dictionaries to the students in the area.
